A NEW APPROACH TO MASTER ENGLISH GRAMMAR - PARTS OF SPEECH VS PARTS OF THE SENTENCE

 Parts of speech is commonly referred to as a WORD CALSS is a type of WORD with a particular function.  

e.g., a table - is a noun. (A noun is a Parts of Speech to indicate a person or thing.)

a teacher - is a noun and it indicates a person.    air - is noun and it indicates and intangible (which cannot be seen or touched) thing.

NOUN - answers the question - WHAT? OR WHO? e.g., camera (What?) - a thing, a carpenter (Who? - a person

VERB - indicates an action and answers the question WHAT TO DO? e.g., to learn, to swim, to want 

ADJECTIVE - shows the attribute (size, colour, taste, form, location, age, purpose, origin etc) of a noun i.e., any word that describes a noun. e.g., This is a big chair. (The word BIG is an adjective and it describes the size of the CHAIR)  It's a red car. (The word RED describes the colour of the CAR) This cake is delicious. (The word DELICIOUS describes the taste of the CAKE)
