Class VI CHAPTER - 3 THE SHEPHERD'S TREASURE

Q1. Who visited the shepherd one day and why?
Ans. The king of Iran had heard of the Shepherd's wisdom and visited him. He dressed up like a shepherd and rode a mule.

Q2. Why did the other governors grow jealous of the shepherd?
Ans. The shepherd because of his wisdom was appointed the governor of a small district. He was loved and honoured by the people. As his fame spread far and wide, the other governors became jealous of him.

Q3. Why was the new governor called to the palace?
Ans. The jealous governors poisoned the king's ears against the shepherd. They told the king that the new governor was dishonest and that he always carried an iron chest which contained his ill gotten treasure. This made the king summon the governor to the palace.

Q4. Why was everyone delighted to see the iron chest on the camel's back?
Ans. The jealous governors were delighted to see the iron chest because if their report turned out to be true then they were sure that he could be caught red handed and he would be dismissed and sent back to the jungle from where he had come.

Q5. What did the iron chest contain? Why did the shepherd always carry it? Is it an example of the shepherd's humility or wisdom or both?
Ans. The iron chest contained only an old blanket. The shepherd always carried the old blanket as it was his best friend. If at any time the king decided to take away the wealth and power, his blanket would protect him. Yes, it is an example of his humility and wisdom.

Q6. How did the king reward the new governor?
Ans. The king was very pleased with the new governor's humility, wisdom and honesty. He rewarded the him by making him the governor of a bigger province the same day.
